Jon Stewart Rejoices Over Osama Bin Laden's Death: 'We're Back, Baby'

Jon Stewart could barely contain his excitement over Osama bin Laden's death on his Comedy Central talk show Monday night.

"I suppose I should be expressing some ambivalence about the targeted killing of another human being, and yet, uh, no," he told his Daily Show audience. "I just want details. What look did he give when Bin Laden realized the helicopters overhead were not giving traffic and weather updates? You think he pulled a Culkin?" Stewart quipped, showing the iconic image of Macauley Culkin with his hands on his cheeks and a shocked look on his face from Home Alone.

"Maybe he gave a little more dramatic chipmunk?" Stewart continued, referring to the viral video of a chipmunk suddenly whipping its head around and looking straight into the camera. "Believe me, he wasn't expecting it. You know he was living in some staid and upscale Pakistani suburb for some time when we got him. You know this guy's out there preaching suicide bombing and jihad pretending he's Gandalf wandering the frontier, all the while he's living like one of the housewives of Orange County."

Stewart also showed snippets from cable news pundits warning that there could be a "reprisal attack" in the works. (Gawker has the video.)

"Yes, we shouldn't have killed him," he quipped. "Now the terrorists are going to want to attack us. But you know what, even when they do, you know who won't see it? Bin Laden. Because we shot out his eyes, and now he lives in a pineapple under the sea," Stewart joked, in a reference to SpongeBob SquarePants.

Stewart then turned serious when addressing the death of bin Laden, who masterminded the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington D.C. nearly 10 years ago.

Stewart, a native New Yorker whose show tapes in the city, has been an advocate for Sept. 11 responders. He recently used his show to champion a federal bill providing billions of dollars to treat people who became ill after working in the World Trade Center ruins. Afterward, he joined the board of the foundation that is building the Sept. 11 memorial in New York.

"I am way too close to this whole episode to be rational about this in any way shape or form," Stewart told his audience. "Last night was a good night for me, and not just New York or D.C. or America, but for human people."

He added that bin Laden has give the Arab world a negative image for "too long" and that his death delivered a serious blow to Al Qaeda.

"They have nothing," Stewart said. "Can they still do damage? I'm sure. But we're back, baby."
