Microsoft adds chunk of space at Redmond office park

Microsoft has leased a significant amount of space at a Redmond office park where it already occupies 400,000 square feet.

A source, who asked not to be named, said that Microsoft Corp. is renting 100,000 square feet more at Millennium Corporate Park. The six-building campus at 18200 N.E. Union Hill Road is about four miles from Microsoft?s headquarters in Redmond.

A Microsoft representative could not be reached for comment. Chris Hughes, the real estate broker with Jones Lang LaSalle, which represents Millennium owner TIAA-CREF, declined to comment. Microsoft?s real estate broker, Dwight Newell of CBRE, was not immediately available.

Microsoft?s expansion at Millennium means the company will occupy most of the 537,000-square-foot park.

The source who said that Microsoft is renting more space at Millennium added that the company also renewed its lease for the 400,000 square feet it already occupies. The source did not know the terms of the deal.

According to a marketing flier on the officespace.com real estate site, the annual rental rate at Millennium is $21 a square foot, plus expenses, such as maintenance and utilities. Expenses for this type of property in Redmond run about $9 a foot a year.

Tech equipment company Texas Instruments and engineering company Golder Associates lease small amounts of space at Millennium.
