On Tuesday, March 27, 2012, the Business Continuity Institute (BCI) teamed up with its platinum sponsor, xMatters, a leading supplier of relevance engines, and held its Inaugural BCI Awards ? North America for a packed house of nearly 300 business continuity professionals at Disaster Recovery Journal (DRJ) Spring World 2012. Delivered in partnership with the BCI, the leading Institute in Business Continuity worldwide, DRJ represents one of the?World?s Largest Conferences dedicated to Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery.

The BCI North America Awards were set up by the BCI to recognize and celebrate unparalleled achievement in 12 critical areas of the BCM discipline.

Lorraine Darke, Executive Director of BCI tells us that: ?Now totalling more than 1200 BCI members, the BCI is the fastest growing membership organization in North America and this growth is testimony to the continued support, hard work and dedication of these BCM professionals to the business continuity cause.? The BCI North America Awards pay tribute to this accomplishment and to the people who have been the driving force behind it.?

Ms. Darke goes on to say: ?The BCI North America Awards provide a public platform to showcase and applaud some of the greatest BCM ?heroes? in the North American Continent.?? Tonight?s event has been a huge success and marks the beginning of a new chapter in the history of BCM in North America. Our partnership with the DRJ was meant to signify progress for our discipline within the US, and as I look about, I can see why the BCI has been recognized as the fastest growing membership organisation in North America.?

Frank Leonetti, MBCI, CBCP and Professional Services Manager BC/DR at Oracle was the Master of Ceremonies at the Awards.? Speakers included Troy McAlpin, CEO of xMatters and Doug Weldon the BCI US Chapter President.

Following on the heels of this tremendous success, the BCI has already begun planning for the 2nd annual BCI Awards ? North America, which will again be run in partnership with DRJ Spring World 2013.

Bob Arnold, President of the DRJ, captured the feeling best when he told us: ?The DRJ is very proud to have been a part of the 1st Annual BCI Awards-North America in Orlando last week. ?We applaud all of the winners, honorable mentions and nominees in the many categories at this year?s event. ??We look forward to participating in these awards each year as they recognize the leaders in our profession.?
