Career Planning & Experiential Education Specialist - HigherEdJobs

Under administrative direction, provides leadership in all career planning, internships, volunteer programs, and service projects provided
to KWU students and alumni, as appropriate. This position is responsible for raising the visibility and reputation of KWU students and
graduates to outside constituents through effective marketing, professional organizations, and networking techniques. This position is
responsible for providing opportunities that connect classroom learning with experiential learning, assuring best practices are met. The
advancement of career planning and experiential education as a retention tool for KWU students is a critical role for this position.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a 4-year career planning and experiential education center approach.
  • Builds partnerships between University and external communities (business, public sector, and not for profit) to facilitate employer recruitment (both part-time and full-time), service projects, volunteer opportunities and internships of KWU students and alumni.
  • Collaborate with faculty, coaches, alumni relations, and program directors to capture and promote the career success stories of KWU's current students and alumni.
  • Counsels students in the career planning process, including choice of major and career interests.
  • Assesses experiential education and career planning needs of students; plans events, locates and or develops resources to meet these needs. Make recommendations to the Executive Director of Student Development for continuous improvement of services and programs.
  • Plans and conducts workshops/events to facilitate experiential education and career planning for all students and alumni; including job search strategies, interview strategies, resume building strategies, internship procedures, job fairs, service and volunteer opportunities, social media and current trends and graduate/professional school preparations, graduate assistantship opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain an Advisory Board of internal constituents as well as community members in the industry and professional fields appropriate for KWU majors to facilitate strategic planning for experiential education and career planning and to implement ideas and projects.
  • Create new programs with the goal of increased alumni interactions with students to increase networking opportunities and ability to create a networking database.
  • Coordinate annual employment and graduate placement statistics and publish annual report.
  • Maintain individual statistical data, creating weekly, monthly, semester, and annual reports.
  • Promotes the department through marketing of programs and services as well as the development of information for the web page. To include an interactive web site, blogs, and resume/job skill applications.
  • Administers and interprets standardized and computer-assisted assessment instruments.
  • Collaborate with the Volunteer Connection to increase awareness of volunteer opportunities.
  • Supports the student retention efforts of KWU.
  • Assists in all operations of the Student Development Office.
  • Serve on University committees as assigned.
  • Assists in the coordination of New Student Orientation and the First Year Experience program.
Qualifications:
  • Must understand the philosophy of private higher education and support the mission of the University.
  • Enthusiasm and positive attitude toward creating a caring, student-centered environment.
  • Knowledge of NACE guidelines relating to internships.
  • Active involvement or willingness to be involved, in professional associations related to internship/experiential education and career planning field.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in the community and with KWU students, faculty, staff, and alumni to build working relationships.
  • Extremely well organized with excellent follow-through ability and polished presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of domestic and international labor market trends and job search methods for undergraduate students, graduate students, international students, and alumni.
  • Excellent written/organizational skills and attention to detail when adhering to guidelines, performance standards, and policies are essential.
  • Knowledge of student development theory and its role in higher education.
  • Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to organize resources, multi-task simultaneous projects and establish priorities.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a contributing member of the Student Development staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
Experience and Education:
  • Bachelor's degree required, master's degree preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience in career planning, experiential education, or related field is required.
Special Requirement:
  • Subject to a criminal background check prior to employment.
