More coaching shakeups post-Signing Day.
SoonerScoop.com and the Tulsa World reported Monday morning that Sooners offensive line coach James Patton would not return for the 2013 season and informed his players as such this morning. Indiana later announced that Patton was joining the program as the team?s assistant defensive line coach, special teams coordinator and recruiting coordinator.
?We appreciate the contributions that James made to our program over the past seven seasons,? Sooners coach Bob Stoops said in a statement. ?He was a valued member of a staff that helped us win five Big 12 championships. We wish James and his family the best in this opportunity with Kevin Wilson at Indiana.?
?Our family has enjoyed a tremendous experience at the University of Oklahoma,? Patton said. ?It has truly been a pleasure to work with Joe Castiglione, Coach Stoops and the entire football staff, as well as the many talented student-athletes that I was privileged to coach at OU. I?m excited about this new challenge at Indiana, and am extremely grateful for being afforded a chance to work with Oklahoma Football the past seven years.?
The Hoosiers? head coach, Kevin Wilson, formerly served as the Sooners? offensive line coach and later offensive coordinator. He and Patton have ties from their time at Northwestern and Miami (OH).
Patton has been with OU since 2006.?It?s suspected that former OU assistant and Kansas head coach Mark Mangino is the frontrunner to replace Patton.
