Most of the teams have retooled and strengthen their lineup this offseason but the NBA general managers believe that the defending champions Miami Heat are poised to win back-to-back titles in the upcoming NBA season.
According to the NBA.com?s annual general manager survey that was released on Monday, 70 percent of the GM?s believe that the Heat are capable of capturing their second-straight title, marking the second-straight year that the team was tabbed as the favorite heading into the season.
The Heat also got 29 of the possible 30 votes on who will win the Eastern Conference title in the upcoming NBA season. The other vote went to the Boston Celtics, who was picked by the Heat because a team can?t vote for themselves.
Miami added veteran players that are expected to play a huge role for them in their title defense this year, while keeping their championship core intact.
Ray Allen bolted out of the Boston Celtics to join the Heat, while Rashard Lewis also opted to sign with the team, providing Miami added three-point threats that are almost tailor-made for their offensive patterns.
The Los Angeles Lakers finished second in the category, getting 23 percent of the votes, while last year?s losing finalist Oklahoma City Thunder ended up third with seven-percent votes.
The Lakers, who have retooled their roster and was unsurprisingly voted as the team that had the best offseason, was selected by 60 percent of the GMs to win the Western Conference title over Oklahoma City. The Lakers added superstars Steve Nash and Dwight Howard in their fold, while the Thunder virtually remained intact aside from the acquisition of rookie Perry Jones III and former second-overall pick Hasheem Thabeet.
Meanwhile, LeBron James, who was voted as the league?s best small forward and third-best power forward, got 60 percent of the votes for this year?s MVP survey followed by Kevin Durant, who got 30 percent of the votes.
On the other hand, this year?s first-overall pick Anthony Davis got 77-percent votes to become the favorite to win the Rookie of the Year award this season, while San Antonio?s Gregg Popovich was tabbed as favorite to win the Coach of the Year plum.
