OLYMPIA, Wash. ? Washington state has received federal approval for a program designed to improve health care coordination for people eligible for both Medicaid and Medicare.
Gov. Chris Gregoire announced the opportunity Thursday, saying the program is projected to save nearly $14 million over five years. Gregoire has been working on improved federal-state health care coordination for years, noting that bureaucracy between the disconnected programs usually means unnecessary health care expenses and hospital visits.
Under the HealthPathWashington program, the state will be a voluntary program for high-risk, high-need people to get more integrated services. The state is initially targeting 30,000 people who are the highest risk for health issues.
